Lowell and Claudia Wertz have been missionaries to Africa since 1980. They began their missionary service in Zaire (formerly called the Belgium Congo and now called the Democratic Republic of the Congo) where they serviced under the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church from 1980 to 1992.
Since 1993 they have served the Lord in Tanzania with Joy in the Harvest, a Christian mission organization they helped to establish.
Lowell is an ordained United Methodist minister with a heart for evangelism and church planting. His qualifications include short wave radio communications, computer technology, publishing and printing, and project administration. For 26 years he flew a single engine airplane as a bush pilot. He holds a B.A. degree in Sociology and a Master of Divinity degree with a specialization in World Missions.
Claudia has many years experience working with African women and running a guest house facility. She has a B.A. degree in Elementary Education with additional qualifications for teaching Special Education. She taught the mentally handicapped for seven years prior to becoming a missionary.
Katherine was born in South Africa in 1984. She was home schooled in Africa with the A Beka missionary video program her entire life. She graduated from Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky with a major in English. She met Adam, a math major at Asbury, and they were married in a service held in Kigoma, Tanzania in 2006. They currently reside in the Middle East.
Luke was born in South Africa in 1985 and also received his education through the A Beka home schooling program. He entered Asbury College in 2004 and is majoring in Media Communications with an emphasis on Computational Science. He is the webmaster for this website!
